This is just one aspect of the support the branch provides to customers, with several layers of expertise from a long-serving team, as well as working closely with manufacturers to provide dependable solutions to meet project needs.
In the final chapter in our series of our Passive Fire Protection Specialist interviews, we speak to Rukshana Hussain, Internal Sales and Vidette Smith, Business Unit Manager – Nevill Long, our specialists at the Leeds branch, to find out how they add value to their customers…
Vidette comments: “The team at Leeds has so much knowledge and experience to support customer projects. I have been with the business for 27 years and, combined with my Business Unit Manager colleagues, Kelly Blackburn [Encon Insulation and Construction Products] and Claire Liley [Technical Solutions], we have over 70 years’ experience at the branch. Our internal sales teams have worked at Encon for around a decade on average, meaning everybody has a strong grounding of knowledge which they use to support customers.”
Rukshana adds: “Our internal sales team has a good working knowledge of regulations and requirements, supported by the wider knowledge and experience from myself and Vidette. I have been at Encon for 11 years and have specialised in passive fire protection for around four. Our branch also benefits from the widespread knowledge and experience of our Commercial Director – Fire Protection, Neville White.
“For more complex customer enquiries which may require non-standard applications, we work closely with our manufacturer partners to access expert technical support. Our relationships with leading passive fire protection manufacturers including Promat, PFC Corofil, Kemwell, Rockwool, British Gypsum and Quelfire, ensuring our customers get the answers they need and materials delivered on time from stock.”
Product availability is key in passive fire protection so specifications can be met precisely to ensure building safety and meet regulations. By keeping key product lines in stock, we can respond to enquiries at short notice and avoid project delays. Fire protection specifications often overlap with other specialist areas of The Encon Group, meaning customers can source everything they need from one main supplier.
Vidette explains: “We have always supplied elements of passive fire protection, particularly to our drylining customers, but also in facades, partitioning, roofing and general insulation. As a dedicated fire protection centre we can provide more comprehensive support across a wider range of products and view projects holistically from the ground up. The branch is more project-driven now than at any time since I joined, and our customers really appreciate all the different ways we can support them.”
Rukshana concludes: “Our customers rely on us for support and they know they can trust us with their projects. The team’s longevity has helped us develop relationships with our customers, so they know we will always go out of our way to help them, whether it’s accessing technical support from manufacturers, ensuring we have what they need in stock or arranging flexible deliveries.”
