Silt fences are made to retain the run-off from disturbed or bare ground that is vulnerable to weather erosion. The silt-laden run-off, plus site debris and other pollutants, can contaminate surrounding land, rivers, streams, lakes and drains if not collected. They are installed on construction sites as an entrenched vertical entrapment fence, and act as a temporary barrier to reduce silt transport and protect land from significant environmental diffuse pollution.
There are three grades of specialised silt fence available:
Silt Fence Premium
Used on most applications. Made from high quality, permeable, technical filter fabric for stormwater surface runoff pollution management, helping filter smaller particles of silt, whilst maintaining a high permeability.
Silt Fence Highflow
Used when the water flows on-site are very high, the material allows more water through than the premium silt fence, but the compromise is the finer particles will pass through.
Silt Fence Basic
Domestic use and small-scale projects, in which the risk of silt pollution is low.
