Encon has been supporting the not-for-profit club for the last eight years and is sponsoring the 2023-2024 season.
Founded in January 1991, The Arrows Basketball Club supports the development of young people in the North Derbyshire and Sheffield areas. The club offers training on and off the court for children as young as four years old, right up to seniors, and with special attention to young, talented players who are challenged by their ethnicity or socio-economic background.
Pete Kelly, Volunteer Director at the Derbyshire Arrows comments: “It has been another fantastic season for the partnership of Encon and the Arrows Basketball Club. More young people have been welcomed into the sport and developed both on and off the court. This has been so important at a time where families are under increasing pressures due to the cost-of-living crisis.
“Jonathan and Zach (pictured) are typical of those helped by the Arrows. Jonathan is 14 years old, originally from Nigeria. He catches two buses to get to the session and has been provided with his own ball to practice. Zach is from Jamaican heritage and suffers from asthma and autism. Basketball has helped him socially with his self-esteem, health, and weight loss. Both Jonathan and Zach have received an Encon branded training kit.
“This year we have also focussed on developing our girls’ section to try to address the number of girls who generally fade out of sports between the ages of 14 and 16.
“We are extremely grateful for Encon’s ongoing support.”
