‘Building a better future’ at the RCI Show

The RCI Show is back for another year at Stadium MK in Milton Keynes on the 18th-19th October 2022.
RCI Show 2022 Exhibition

Over the years, the RCI Show has become a key date in the industry calendar for thousands of contractors, installers, surveyors and specifiers and this year’s two-day event is expected to be no different – with manufacturers, associations and suppliers attending, all eager to engage with the industry.

The exhibition and conference allow visitors to compare and source new products, learn from the experts, and hear about the important issues currently impacting the market.

Expert-led conference sessions

As part of the RCI show, expert-led conference sessions will provide visitors with new ideas and fresh insights from industry leaders. One of these experts is our very own, Mike Beard, Merchant Business Development Director.

Mike’s career in the building materials industry has spanned an impressive 40+ years, working in a variety of commercial and marketing roles within manufacturing and distribution.

His extensive knowledge of the market, and of the issues and influences, places him among other key speakers at the Show.

Mike’s session on the 18th October will focus on the urgent need for Government to work with the industry and other relevant bodies and develop an effective strategy for improving the thermal efficiency of the UK’s ageing housing stock.

Addressing Britain’s Energy Crisis

The Government’s new Energy Security Strategy sets to accelerate sustainable energy and tackle the significant rises in fuel and energy prices. But what it doesn’t address is improving the UK’s 29 million inefficient homes.

The UK has the oldest housing stock in Europe and the least energy efficient. A recent study by EDF analysed 21 million homes across England and Wales and found that 58% had an insulation age or value pre-1976. Carbon is leaking out of our homes, it’s costing homeowners a fortune, and no-one is doing anything to sort out the leak! Our country urgently needs an effective energy efficiency scheme, developed as a national infrastructure project for the benefit of all parties involved.

Mike’s session will address 5 key points:

  1. Changes to Approved Document L for new homes is only one part of the solution.
  2. Improving the energy efficiency of the UK’s existing housing stock is equally, if not more, important.
  3. We are facing an energy crisis and insulating homes is the most effective way to save energy and cut household bills.
  4. The Government has ambitious targets for Net Zero by 2050. But targets will not be met unless improved energy efficiency is prioritised across ALL housing stock.
  5. An effective energy efficiency scheme is long overdue and needs to be made a national infrastructure project.
