No Glass Ceiling: Delivering Value in Ceilings with Nevill Long Thetford

In the past, aesthetic designs and high-performance ceiling solutions were aligned predominately to large, premium projects working with major clients. However, Denise Young, Senior Internal Sales at Nevill Long Thetford, explains how the sector is raising the bar in product innovation, allowing a wider breadth of projects to benefit from high quality solutions.

Denise is the newest member of the team at Thetford with eight years’ experience in interiors, and with ceilings a particular passion.

Denise comments: “We have seen a significant change in the ceilings market since I entered the industry. The recent increase in availability and innovations in quality options at every level means all our customers can find a really good solution to fit their projects’ needs. This is true right through from the MF ceiling, which offers a cost-effective option finished with plasterboard that can be painted any colour, to suspended ceilings which are ideal for concealing services such as recessed lights, wires and ducts.

“There are also a number of specialist solutions for specific environments such as acoustic ranges for schools and offices, water-resistant and easily cleanable ceilings for swimming pools and hospitals, and durable, tamper-resistant systems for prisons. This is all on top of more unusual ceiling types including vaulted, cove, beamed and glazed.

“There is a really good mix of styles available from manufacturers, from Rockfon® Artic™ which offers good acoustic properties, to Zentia Biobloc Acoustic, a water repellent, anti-microbial suspended ceiling tile for environments with an average to severe risk of infection. The British Gypsum Rigitone system offers sound absorbent qualities and a monolithic finish. The choice and range means we can offer solutions for lots of different customers and applications, from tier-1 contractors and large merchants to smaller specialist contractors. Whether our customers are working on massive arenas, train stations, hospitals, residential buildings, schools or offices, we can help them find the perfect fit for their fit-out.”

Greater product availability means it’s essential for our sales teams to keep their product knowledge up to date so they can support customers with the perfect solution for their project, performance and budget. Distributors can play a vital role in this, using industry experience, product knowledge and strong partnerships with our leading brands to ensure the right products and systems are supplied in full.

Denise explains: “The widespread availability of systems means technical support and product awareness are vital. Most systems are quick and easy to install, and data sheets are widely available through manufacturers’ websites, so designers have more confidence to shape the look and feel of the ceiling, giving the end user more control.

“In my role, relationships are everything. I have to get to know the customer, ask the right questions and understand their project needs to make sure we supply the right solutions. We also use our strong relationships with leading manufacturers to ensure we have and understand projects’ technical information and know the properties of their key ranges so we can pinpoint the best solution for the customer.

“The team at Nevill Long Thetford is fabulous, with vast knowledge paired with a can-do attitude. Our collective expertise and experience mean there is no question we cannot find the answer to, and we leverage this to provide unrivalled customer service, quick quotes and a fast delivery turnaround.”
