The company was originally founded in 1981 by two experienced managers previously employed by Cape Insulation Ltd, a manufacturer of rock and glass mineral wool products. Encon Insulation commenced trading from a base in Halifax, West Yorkshire and the 1980s saw expansion across England, Scotland and Wales.
At its inception Encon Insulation was primarily a supplier of specialised insulation to the mechanical services and process sectors. The founders recognised, even then, the important role that insulation plays in reducing the energy consumption of buildings and that is where the inspiration for the name came from. Energy Conservation = Encon.
Right from the outset the ethos of the company centred around working with talented people to offer specialist knowledge and outstanding service to our customers. This remains just as true today as it did 40 years ago, and we recognise that it is our people who make us the Distributor of Choice to our customers and suppliers.
Over the past 40 years the company has expanded through investment and acquisition broadening our offer to the market.
The 21st century Encon offers an extensive range of products across several market sectors. With nearly 600 employees, 24 locations and a vast fleet of delivery vehicles, each of our divisions specialises in a market sector.
Encon Insulation, where we specialise in building insulation, roofing, cladding, facades and much more for contractors, national developers, house builders and builders’ merchants.
Nevill Long, specialising in ceilings, partitioning, flooring and drywall to contractors, subcontractors, and shop fitters for interior projects.
Encon Technical Solutions, where we specialise in supplying innovative solutions for complex marine & offshore, HVAC, industrial and petrochemical projects.
Encon Construction Products, focusing on construction chemicals, waterproofing, concrete & reinforcement accessories, masonry components, groundworking and geotechnical products.
The last few years have seen exciting changes for Encon with new locations in Oxford, Aberdeen and Thetford adding to our branch network. We have also introduced the Encon Construction Products division taking us into the infrastructure market.
Infrastructure is an important focus for the business going forward, and we continue to grow our specialist team in this area so that we can support an even more diverse customer base.
