Recent market challenges such as regulatory changes, materials shortages and inflationary pressures have affected the industry at large. However, Encon remains focussed on its long-term plans and continues to invest in growth, recently unveiling our long-standing branch in Leeds as a specialist stockist of Construction Products, and with more exciting news in the pipeline.
In an interview with Encon Strategy Director Vaughan Taylor, he reflects on the changing market environment. Vaughan also summarises the strategies that have allowed us to support our customers during these times, strengthen supplier relationships and continue to develop our business.
Over the last 12 months, what key issues or challenges have impacted Construction?
VT: In the past year, the market has been full of challenges, ranging from product allocation and availability to rapid price inflation and then deflation. Many manufacturers have encountered significant increases in fuel bills, which they’ve passed on through the supply chain. In turn, these increases have impacted contractors and sub-contractors on fixed-price contracts, and created a difficult market against heightened price pressures.
Strong manufacturer and customer relationships are key in such times, so that options can be explored which allow all parties to move forward with mutually beneficial outcomes.
What is Encon doing to adapt to a changing landscape and continue to support customers?
VT: We endeavour to help our key customers through expanding our choice of solutions from stock, nurturing our established relationships with specified manufacturers, and ensuring knowledgeable support, consistent supply, and reliable deliveries. In a market where the right product, delivered at the right time and at the right price is a must, a flexible approach in all regards is vital.
As a distributor, in what way does Encon continue to add value in an evolving built environment?
VT: As a valued distributor, I believe our loyal and key customers benefit from our close working relationships, best-in-class service and a good commercial offer that suits all parties. Encon is an essential conduit in the supply chain so strong relationships with our key manufacturer partners and early engagement with customers so we can support them at every stage of their project ensures maximum benefit all round.
How do recent developments at Encon Leeds fit with the overall strategy for Construction Products, and how will it benefit customers and the business going forward?
VT: The expanded range of Construction Products at Leeds means we continue to strengthen our geographical position and offering, with new and existing customers in the region benefitting from a wider basket of products from one main supplier. This latest development also gives our key manufacturer partners the confidence that we are continually developing and proactively focusing on the future.
In an evolving market, successful and effective businesses don’t stand still. They continuously look for new opportunities and plan for a stronger future. As ‘The Distributor of Choice’ in our markets, our focused drive is aimed at achieving more and being the best for our customers and suppliers, and for our teams. Watch this space...!
