Encon Insulation is founded by two experienced managers formerly of Cape Insulation Ltd. Trading begins from a base in Halifax, West Yorkshire. The company primarily supplies specialised insulation to the mechanical services and process sectors.
Manufacturing is resurrected at the defunct Cape Rocksil plant in Stirling. In addition, Superglass Insulation arrives in the UK’s glass mineral wool market and becomes part of The Encon Group.
The venture capitalist company 3i acquires a majority share of The Encon Group.
Superglass Insulation (part of The Encon Group) is sold to the venture capitalist-backed management team, and Encon Insulation is acquired by Wolseley Plc.
Nevill Long, a long-established specialist interior systems distributor and the first UK distributor of Armstrong Ceiling tiles from the USA, is sold by James Latham PLC to Wolsley PLC, becoming an integrated division of The Encon Group.
The Encon Group acquires specialist passive fire protection manufacturer, PFC Corofil Ltd.
The Encon Group returns to its independent roots following a management buy-out led by CEO Stuart Moore on 31 October 2011. The sale covers the entire Encon Group of businesses – Encon Insulation, Nevill Long, PFC Corofil and Gill Insulation.
On completion of the buy-out, Stuart said: “As the new owner of Encon, I believe we have an excellent opportunity to drive the business forward, and I truly believe we have an exciting journey ahead of us.”
June 2014 marks a new era, with the coming together of Encon Interior Systems and Nevill Long into one new-look Nevill Long brand. This places Nevill Long at the forefront of the interior systems distribution industry and delivers extensive choice of market-leading products under an integrated brand.
We expand our offering for the industrial and HVAC markets by investing in our Encon Technical Solutions division. In 2018 we opened dedicated Technical Solutions branches at Oxford and Washington.
Encon Construction Products offers a range of construction products and accessories - specifically for the infrastructure sector.
The new Nevill Long Thetford branch opens, bringing leading brands and unrivalled expertise to the East Anglia region. Expanding the estate to 23 branches.
Encon Technical Solutions Oxford moves to a larger site, with a larger warehouse and increased capacity, ensuring a larger stock holding of products for our key market sectors.
Further investment in our branch network expands our capabilities to provide an outstanding service to customers around the country. Our Newcastle and Washington branches combine to form the new North East branch, providing total project solutions in the region, while our new Wrexham branch allows us to offer a reliable service to customers in North Wales.
